Life Journey:

A middle-aged male service-user with long-term depression

This middle-aged male service-user with long-term depression was a dynamic and vital presence in the room. Witty and articulate he was able to use the creative exercises to express the different sides of his persona and personality – his evident humour masking profound feelings of despair. His concluding poem was deeply moving in its heartfelt emotion, but his narration of his life-journey went on to mark out recovery and a place where he was happy and loved.

I come from being a product of the environment,
I have left behind the past,
I want everyone to know that,
I’m the hate that hate made to hate me.
Life, lose, lose, lose,
Validate what happened,
Recover and find love lost.
When you see my name,
On a gravestone,
Know that I’m on my way home.
