British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies

The British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies is a multi-disciplinary interest group for people involved in the practice and theory of behavioural and cognitive psychotherapy.

We are the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in the UK and Ireland. We promote, improve and uphold standards of CBT practice, supervision and training. We support our members to develop professionally and link with the CBT community. We are a professional association operating a highly-respected voluntary register for our accredited cognitive behavioural psychotherapists, and help to protect the public by supporting best practice.

Accreditation means that a CBT therapist has both core professional mental health training or recognised equivalent; as well as specific CBT training. In order to be accredited, BABCP and AREBT members must have applied and demonstrated that they meet high standards of training and experience in CBT. They also commit to maintaining our standards of clinical practice, clinical supervision and continuing professional development activities. Accredited members are audited to ensure that they continue to meet these expectations.

The CBT Register UK is a public register of accredited BABCP and AREBT members. The aim of the Register is to protect the public, employers and other agencies by helping them find CBT therapists who have met our required standards.
